Making Origami Valentine Cards

Instead of buying expensive and impersonal cards, consider making your own origami Valentine cards. This project is easy enough for a child to do. In fact, you can make Valentine cards for an entire classroom of children in just one afternoon.

Step 1

Begin with a square piece of paper. Larger pieces of paper result in larger cards. If you don't have origami paper handy, try using 12x12 scrapbook paper or cutting squares from some pretty wrapping paper. Paper that has one white or light colored side is best, although you could use a metallic gel pen to write on dark colored paper if you desire.

Fold the paper in half, with the white side facing out. Remember to make sharp creases for the best results.

Step 2

Unfold the paper. With the white side facing up, fold the corners into the center.

Step 3

Turn the paper over. Fold both sides into the center.

Fold the paper in half horizontally.

Flip the paper, and then fold your origami Valentine card in half vertically.

Use scissors to cut small notches on each corner.

Open up your card to write a personalized message. Decorate the front of your origami Valentine cards with stickers or other embellishments if desired.
